There has been an accident
At such and such a place and road.
An everyday announcement we hear
But for some the world will explode.
As spouses or family members
Or even perhaps best friends,
Could be caught up in the smash
And for some their life ends.
Thus for thousands of people each year
The accident news that was read,
Would have devastating consequences
Of serious injuries, with some dead.
Because these accidents that we hear of
Happen each and every day,
With lives changed drastically forever
Despite how hard you beg and pray.
So what causes all of these crashes
Often on roads that are mostly straight?
Well it could be drink or drugs,
Or simply someone just can’t wait
Before risking a tricky manoeuvre,
Whilst some will be on their phone
But whatever is the cause
Someone could now be alone.

Of course as humans we make mistakes
In judging distances, times and speeds.
Maybe just not seeing clearly
Can be as little as it needs,
To cause life to be snuffed out
And all of us can be guilty too.
Although most won’t admit to this
The facts will prove it’s true.
So best to take some time out
To consider how we drive,
For with less speed and drinking
Many more people will stay alive,
Or not spend their life on crutches
Maybe with a disfigured face,
So try your best to ensure
An accident is not your disgrace.
