John Silverton was a double winner in the Anderida Writers Annual Short Story and Poetry competition at the Hydro Hotel, Eastbourne, on Tuesday, July 21st when prizes were presented by Coronation Street legend Brian Capron.
John lifted the Short Story prize of £60 with his amusing entry ‘The Bicycle’, and finished joint first with Dennis Stidder in the Poetry competition.
Dennis and John shared the cash prize of £50 and vouchers for the popular Pomodoro e Mozzarella Italian Restaurant.
Francis Wait, the runner-up in the Short Story section, received a bottle of bubbly donated by Anderida’s patron Tamara McKinley
Chairman Tony Flood said: “The high standard of entries and the excellent readings of them by actors Brian Capron and Sue Thacker provided a most entertaining evening. Those members and guests who had attended a previous meeting qualified to vote by giving each entry a mark out of 10. The votes were counted by competition secretary Francis Wait and secretary Robert Crouch during the interval, and prizes were presented by Brian in the second-half.”
