Actor Brian Capron was unanimously elected Anderida Writers’ new Patron at their meeting in the Hydro Hotel on Tuesday, September 8th.
Brian, who became a Coronation Street legend when playing serial killer Richard Hillman, was also the guest speaker.
In addition to providing anecdotes about his career, Brian gave members advice on the advantages of obtaining endorsements and forewords for their books, having written several himself.
Chairman Tony Flood paid tributes to outgoing Patron Tamara McKinley, Vice Chairman Nigel Gearing, Secretary Robert Crouch, and Francis Wait as Competition Secretary and Membership Secretary.
Mr Flood said: “Tamara has been associated with Anderida for many years, during which she became an international best-selling author under her own name and that of Ellie Dean.
“She has used her experience and knowledge to provide members with helpful advice and critiques to repay the club for the help she received before her fame.
“In the last two years, Tamara and Vice Chairman Nigel Gearing judged short stories and poems in the Gearing Trophy competition.
“Nigel generously donated more than £200 in prize money for each of the two years the competition has been held, and also donated a Christmas hamper to be raffled.
“Francis Wait was Competition Secretary and Membership Secretary for many years, during which he gave great service to the club.
“Robert Crouch became Secretary at the last annual meeting. He has also made very helpful contributions to Anderida, including designing, with his wife Carol, a new website for us. This resulted in him being awarded the Anderida Accolade award.”
Those present at Tuesday’s meeting supported Tony in looking at ways for the club to move forward, including ideas for forthcoming meetings.
They also welcomed John Newton as the new Secretary, Richard Rewell as the new Competitions Secretary, and Vince Kent, who has stepped into the roles of Membership Secretary and Assistant Competitions Secretary.
