Frogs at Springtime

By Miriam Erasmus

First of all came lots of eggs…. spawn’s the proper word.
From these eggs the tadpoles grew, tell me that you heard.

Tadpoles just have tails and heads. Look what’s happening here.
Little tiny legs and feet, starting to appear.

Look, the tail has nearly gone.Tadpole’s getting fat.
It’s become a baby frog. Goodness ! Fancy that!

Now it’s jumping from the pool, it’s amphibian.
See it catching lots of flies with its sticky tongue.

Frogs are small and frogs are huge. Green or brown or red.
Croaking to each other. Oh ! That one’s laying eggs!
