Thank You For Being ‘There’

By Miriam Erasmus

I was reminded today of all the folks who are always ‘there’ for each other.

From my perspective, being a singer, I have always appreciated those who make the effort to put together a concert, whether a theatre, folk club, festival, house or open mic.

All the behind the scenes folks that make up the heartbeat of a venue are priceless.

Then, the fact is – what would a performer / artist be without an audience / supporter ?

These are the people that help pay the rent, and I am very grateful to each one who has paid money to sing with me, or buy product over the decades. Thank you.

Anyone who is in the arts, or sports, or anything that requires hours of practice and dedication to improving the results of ones labours understands the amount of background support and encouragement that is required to carry on, sometimes against all odds, and produce the best one can time and time again. These are not 9 to 5 endeavours, they require a lifetime of 24/7/365. I know in my life, I have lived and breathed my artistic profession.

Moving on from these artistic and sporting endeavours.

How many of us have family and friends who are always just ‘there’ ?

Parents who quietly taxi their children to ‘after school’ activities.

Children who have to look after themselves whilst parents are busy working all hours God gives to keep a roof over their heads.

Just a couple of examples – we are all aware that there are thousands more people whose ever loving presence is felt not seen.

Those people who know the real ‘you’ without all the trappings of a job status, no matter how high up the ladder or humble.

Not everyone has to say “Job well done !” Their support speaks far louder than any words of affirmation.

These are my heroes. In my life, I have taken so much of this for granted. This was the reminder I needed to appreciate how many supporting souls it takes just to exist and get through the day.

Thank you to all who are ‘there’ for me, I hope you know that I am ‘there’ for you.
