Further to my previous article on August 11th – How do we support our artists ? –
My son said something very interesting this morning, and I’d like to share it with you.
“Human beings can survive on a couple of litres of water and one meal a day.
Computers, and AI need goodness knows how many resources and human programmers to function.
Humans who are properly educated and encouraged to be creative and inventive, are far cheaper to maintain !! “
Author Bio:
Miriam was born in Lewes, Sussex in 1948.
For the last 77 years her life has revolved around the gift of music.
At college in the 60s, she learned the guitar and became enamoured with folk songs, which led to a 4 year career as “Miriam Backhouse. The First Lady of Folk”.
She still tours Europe every Summer.
In 1977 she married John Erasmus and moved to South Africa.
Miriam and John ( who died in May 2023 ) shared a love of music and raised a family on these talents, playing music from Opera to Rock ’n’ Roll and Nursery Rhymes !
Their main work was as “Auntie Mim and John” touring the Pre Primary and Junior Primary Schools in KwaZulu Natal from 1987 to 2018.
Mim devised over 40 shows, including Puppet Shows, and wrote nearly 300 songs and poems.
Her life has trodden many paths:- musician, sound worker, educator, model, seamstress, puppeteer, actress, wife, mother and grandmother.
Now, she is a journalist, sharing her adventures in South Africa and on her travels.
