By Miriam Erasmus
She sits there knitting
Her nimble hands veined.
Each stitch takes longer
As her eyesight wanes.
A bonnet for the baby,
Or socks for the boys.
She is in her own worldย
And counting her joys.
Another long journey
As many before.
She doesnโt drive now
Itโs not fun any more.
See you at the station,ย
The family will be there.
Soon thereโs a cuppa
In the old rocking chair.
She sits there dreaming
Soothed by the wheels.
No one around her
Knows how she feels.
Leaving the family
Her own little onesย
After a visit
To one of her sons.
We hardly notice.
Sheโs just one of us.
Somebodyโs treasure.
The old lady on the bus.
