By Miriam Erasmus
The sun is not awake yet.
There’s just a hint of light.
But look what Nature’s magic
Has woven in the night.
Sparkling on the grasses to some unearthly cue,
On spiders’ webs and woodland leaves,
Humbly lies the dew.
And soft across the meadows,
To welcome day anew,
Steal lowly ones from calf to fawn –
The drinkers of the dew.
And here’s another marvel.
The sun’s first morning rays
Shining on the dewdrops,
Which light up as we gaze.
There is no earthly glitter.
No cold, hard stone or hue
To ever out-bedazzle
The rainbows in the dew.
The let us stroll in wonder,
As morning rays shine through,
To join in silent gratitude
The drinkers of the dew.
